Hotel Golden Water Retreat, Kumarakom  Golden Water Retreat in Kumarakom transports you to a world - indeed you can reach the Retreat by boat - which is at once easy, leisurely and one where there is no pollution or the pressures of daily life. Kumarakom, incidentally, has been recognized as one of the world's top ten destinations and worth a visit. The Retreat has 28 cottages on the banks of the canals, some of which are actually on the water. The cottages are accessible by boat as well as by rural paths. The rooms in the cottages are all air-conditioned and possess all the facilities that large hotels provide. There is an added attraction: you can actually fish from the cottage windows. Golden Water's multi-cuisine restaurant, Nalukettu is also done up in a traditional style. The other eatery, Meenkulam, also known as the 'Hook and cook' place, lets you choose the fish from the waters, which is then prepared in front of you. The water abounds with special varieties of fish like pearlpot or 'karimeen' and shellfish like, prawns, crabs and clams. The bar, Madhusala, serves beers, wines and other liquors. The Retreat has a swimming pool with a cascade. There is provision for boating, canal and lake cruises, fishing, trekking and bird watching at the famous Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. The hotel also arranges trips to coir factories, nearby villages and the famous R-Block, a 3000-acre stretch of land, lower than the water. Access:  78 km from Kochi Airport, 16 km from Kottayam Railway Station, 1 km from Kumarakam Bus Stand.
